11/08/2013 Apple Tree Bay (1st Mulloway)

Well today was the first time i've gotten out since i came back from Darwin and i apologise for the lack of post but i promise i'll be getting out a lot more after the next two month's but any way let get on with the report. Today was the final comp on the WSBB calendar this season at Apple tree bay. I managed to secure a spot on a boat and i was eager to hit the water. As soon as we hit the water we headed up river and stopped by a rocky edge with a steep drop-off to about 6m's. It was the bottom of the tide and after a bit of research in my spare time i knew that Jewfish liked to feed in between the tide change so i tied on a slightly larger lure than what i would normally use (2,1/2 inch Citer shrimp) and i was flicking away at this Drop off and on my fifth cast whack i was on although it hit hard the fight didn't last long at first i had thought it was a good sized flatty but looking into the clear water i saw the golden flank's coming up the water column and i wasn't disappointed since i hadn't caught a Jewie before i was ecstatic. Not too long after it was in the net and i yelled out a very loud yeesss as a sign of relief. having examined the fish i found myself incredibly fortunate that i wasn't bitten off the lure was attached with 4ld fluorocarbon leader and was right down the fishes mouth after retrieving the lure and a few happy snaps i laid it on the ruler where it measured 50cm not huge by Jewie but standards i was still happy to have finally landed my first ever Mulloway Jewfish. After a quick swim along the side of the boat it swam off towards the bottom.
Well thats how i caught my first Jewie and unfortunately that's it after that first fish we couldn't find a fish besides the Pinkies and leather-jackets. It was like dipping our lures in acid every plastic we through in got chewed to bits and the fish just weren't interested in our Blades or hardbodies so when we turned back up to the ramp we soon found out that no one else had any better luck either and it was donuts all round.
Thanks for reading and Tight Lines
